What we teach—and how we teach it matters.

MY PLATFORM
  • Texas students deserve an honest curriculum that tells the full story of our state and country. That means including the contributions of women, communities of color, and historically underrepresented voices, as well as local and regional history. Curriculum should build critical thinking and civic understanding—not just test preparation.

  • How we teach matters. I support modern, research-based instruction that strengthens literacy and prepares students for today’s world, while still valuing traditional learning like reading, writing, discussion, and hands-on work. Technology and AI should be used responsibly, with clear ethical guidelines and proper training, to support educators—not replace them.

  • Language should never be a barrier to learning or family engagement. I support bilingual education, multilingual instructional materials, translation and interpretation services, and accessible resources for students with disabilities. Public schools work best when all families can fully participate and advocate for their children.

  • Educators deserve respect, professional autonomy, and a real voice in state decision-making. I believe in investing in high-quality instructional materials and reducing top-down mandates that ignore classroom realities.

  • Public education is a public good. I will work to strengthen neighborhood public schools, promote transparency and accountability, and ensure state education decisions serve students and communities—not political agendas.

What is the Texas State Board of Education?

The Texas State Board of Education makes decisions that affect every public school student in the state.

The State Board:

  1. Sets statewide curriculum standards (TEKS)

  2. Approves instructional materials and textbooks

  3. Oversees the Permanent School Fund

  4. Reviews and approves charter schools

These decisions shape what students learn, how teachers teach, and how public dollars are spent. This seat matters because it determines whether education policy is guided by politics—or by educators, research, and community needs.
